Jakarta, March 9, 2024 – The celebration of National Music Day, commemorated every March 9th, serves as a special platform for the appreciation of Indonesian musicians and the contributions they have made to Indonesia through their works. Iwa-K, a senior Indonesian artist actively involved in the national music scene as a rapper and songwriter, also celebrates National Music Day by reminiscing about the journey of his single, “Bebas,” which has reached the age of 30. Iwa-K recounts that the song ‘Bebas’, which he wrote, was inspired by readings about a Buddhist doctrine, Zen Dharma, which believes in the concept of freeing the mind. A quote from John Lennon’s book, ‘never lose the child in you’, also served as inspiration as a creative worker, where the positive childlike spirit within oneself is considered a ‘source of inspiration’ that aids the creative process. “Bebas,” a song developed and popularized by Iwa-K, is the lead single from Iwa-K’s second studio album titled “Topeng,” which received the BASF Awards in 1994, exactly 30 years ago.

For 30 years, the song “Bebas” has become a part of Indonesian society, where it continues to demonstrate its existence among all walks of life, both young and old, rich and poor. Even in each generation, this song is always sung with lyrics that are still deeply ingrained in our memories. As stated by Iwa-K, “I am very happy and surprised that ‘Bebas’ has had such a huge positive impact on many segments of society, to the point of becoming a unique part of Indonesian culture that grew up listening to the song ‘Bebas,’ an appreciation from Indonesian music enthusiasts that is invaluable during the 30 years of the song’s existence.

The Brand Manager of the Food Category at PT Bina Karya Prima, Roland Octasilva Layandi, said that Forvita, drawing inspiration from Iwa-K’s song ‘Bebas’, specifically wants to show appreciation by collaborating and launching the “Bebas Lemak Trans” campaign inspired by the song “Bebas.” Known as a trans-fat-free margarine product, Forvita has already established itself and is committed to providing the same wide-ranging positive impact to various segments of Indonesian society through healthy and affordable margarine products.

As an artist who also enjoys eating and cooking, Iwa-K is pleased to receive appreciation from Forvita because he believes there is a common goal between cooking and making music, where both are creative activities aimed at producing a flavor that can be enjoyed by oneself and others.
